Public Leadership Challenge – decentralizations of government services
January 30 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
With the Public Leadership Challenge (PLC), the Public Leadership Foundation focus upon current challenges we are facing in society today. How can we best address these challenges? What are their implications for Public Leadership? What kind of Public Leadership is called for? And what are preconditions for successful leadership?
Shared leadership of people from various backgrounds, fields of expertise and areas of authority help us to find solutions. In small groups we will work on concrete questions and develop new approaches towards public leadership, the preconditions of that leadership and the wishes for leadership from the perspective of one of the partners. We get exposed to and inspired by key people in the field. We will cooperate and co-create in a dynamic and interactive way, including new perspectives and building on our various expertise and backgrounds to formulate answers to the questions of the partners. By the end of the day, the groups will pitch their leadership and wishes to the different partners. The group and the partners will make appointments about the follow up.
Against this background, the second PLC will focus upon one of the main challenges in the Netherlands: decentralizations of government services. Since 2015 municipalities are responsible for youth care, employment & income and care for the elderly and the chronically ill. This asks for collaboration at board, civil administrative and financial level. All in all, a major culture change is needed: Employees of municipalities, healthcare & welfare organizations and people who need care and offer aid will have to renew terms, monopoly and relationships.
Questions to work on:
– Which public leadership must be displayed for this transformation to succeed? At municipalities, healthcare & welfare organizations and in society?
– What are preconditions for successful leadership during the decentralizations?
